CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Private Practice- I am a bilingual California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice and have over 15 years of experience providing psychotherapy to adults, children, adolescents, couples, families and groups working with a wide range of complex emotional and behavioral problems. In addition to private practice, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings, including but not limited to:
Private Psychiatric Hospital- individual psychotherapy and psycho-educational support groups on anxiety and mood disorders to severely mentally ill teens and adults.
Counseling and Consulting Services Agency- psychotherapy in English and Spanish for couples and families, specializing in interracial couples, blended families, co-parenting issues and substance abuse. Taught workshops and led court mandated Parenting, Domestic Violence, Anger management and Substance Abuse groups for teens and adults.
Residential Facilities for Severely Emotionally Disturbed Teens- psychotherapy for teens, staff trainings, treatment planning, conducted evaluations.
City Community Services in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties- groups for parents and their high risk teenage children regarding issues of substance abuse, delinquency, cutting and suicidal ideation.
Public Elementary, Middle School and High Schools- individual and group psychotherapy for students with ADHD, learning disabilities and emotional disturbance, school staff trainings on behavior management.
Community Health Center- parent-infant/child mental health services focusing on early screening, evaluation, prevention and treatment of early childhood disorders (from birth to age 6), and addressing issues such as mother-infant attachment, post-partum depression and early childhood trauma.
Women’s Shelter- court-mandated individual dual diagnosis treatment and family therapy for women who lost custody of their children due to substance abuse and/or mental illness.
Medical Clinic- as clinical quality assurance specialist and supervisor collaborated in the creation, development and launching of integrated primary care-behavioral health programs for community patients.
California Victim Compensation and Government Program- long term counseling for survivors of domestic abuse, violent crimes and both acute and chronic trauma.
This array of clinical settings and experience have contributed to my depth of understanding in treating complex problems that people of all ages can face in daily life.
TRAINING
I am trained in many therapeutic methods and theoretical orientations including but not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Attachment Theory, Relationship-Based Parent and Infant/Child Mental Health, Applied Developmental Neuroscience, Positive Psychology, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, Motivational Interviewing, Seeking-Safety, Play therapy and Strength-Based Therapy.
As a bilingual and bi-cultural therapist, I also have advanced clinical training and experience in cross cultural counseling and working with people of all backgrounds, cultures, religions and sexual orientations, and understand how cultural sensitivity can impact treatment outcome and people’s lives.
